150 years ago on the 12 th and 13 th December 1866 The Oaks Colliery in Barnsley was hit by two devastating underground explosions killing 383 men and boys. It remains the worst mining disaster in English History. The Oaks colliery is located less than a mile from Lloyd-Thomas Consultancy and so we would like to remember those who lost their lives over those two days and the devastation caused to the local communities in South Yorkshire.
